Large Format Digital Print can be defined as a method of printing using digital technology to print onto an ever-increasing choice of substrates using an equally wide and growing range of printing technologies. The graphics produced are pushing the boundaries of all aspects involved whether it’s the media being printed or the technology printing it. Driving this revolution is advances in computer technology making it possible.
In recognition of this growing market Brook International has successfully developed a wide range of textile / fabric substrates to meet the demands of the large format digital print industry. As the market and its end uses has developed fabric manufacturers and suppliers have had to respond to give print specifiers the fabrics they need to satisfy their clients’ requirements.
Considered a relatively new technology printed images are manipulated and printed onto fabrics by digitizing the image in such a way as the ink is delivered in the form of tiny dots of ink. These dots or deposits of ink are often measured in picoliters. To get an idea of how tiny a picoliter is there are 1,000,000 picoliters in 1 cubic millimetre. Fabrics often have to be specially treated so that the ink is carefully controlled when it hits the fabric especially with printers that print fabric direct-to-textile.
Large format digital print enables very fast turnaround times due to short set up times and built-in colour management systems. Another major advantage is that it is possible to print multiple or even different images all in one or as a continuous process. Conventional high volume print runs are giving way to digital printing technologies giving print buyers greater choice.
The following table shows all the fabrics that fall in to the category of fabrics suitable for large format digital print. Many of the fabrics are available in a choice of finishes including pure, Brook-7, Flame Retardant (FR) and Brook-7 FR. Some products are only available as a FR option and are identified as such. Certain fabrics can also be FR treated to order, please enquire. Where weights are given this is for guidance only.
